The Welder Mechanic is part of a support group that is responsible for providing timely upkeep and preventative maintenance of all manufacturing plant equipment.  Mechanic is responsive to production needs and strives to ensure safe and high quality operation of plant equipment at all times.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Hold and maintain welding certification to allow for fabricating of piping per ASME standards on PSM covered process equipment as required.  Be familiar with structural welding standards.   Pass quarterly X-ray examinations on piping to maintain certification.

  • Use various types of welding, cutting, and soldering equipment to construct, modify, or repair plant equipment.

  • Determine and locate materials required for maintenance tasks.  Determine the most efficient method of completing job assignments.

  • Complete all necessary paperwork (work orders) in a timely manner including accounting for all parts removed from the stockroom, tool crib, etc.

  • Complete projects assigned according to schedule.

  • Work from verbal and written instructions, including blue prints, schematic diagrams, sketches, and welding diagrams. Develop bills of materials.  Consult technical manuals for factory specifications as required.

  • Be aware of proper operation of all shop equipment including drill press, metal cutters, welders, saws, grinders, presses etc.

  • Remove, rebuild, repair and install standard mechanical equipment components such as rollers, pulleys, shafts, sheaves, sprockets, couplings, chains, belts, gear boxes, speed reducers, etc.

  • Remove, repair, clean, install, and maintain pumps, valves and related piping for process materials and utilities, including water, hot oil, air, nitrogen, and natural gas.

  • Level, align, balance and lag down components as necessary.

  • Perform preventive and predictive maintenance on schedule to ensure equipment uptime.

 

REQUIREMENTS

  • Completion of a vocational welding program.
  • 2-5 years of practical welding experience.
  • Ability to weld using welding procedures for various techniques including MIG, TIG, and stick. 
  • Basic drafting and ability to read construction and welding drawings.
  • Ability to fabricate components from sheet metal, angle iron, C-channel, etc., in variety of materials including carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum.
  • Ability to perform basic mechanic duties: align equipment, fit bearings, rig equipment for removal and replacement, fit pipe for repair and new construction, etc.
  • Experience using powered industrial vehicles including forktrucks, scissor lifts, and articulating manlifts.
