This role provides technical support within the Reserve plant and serves as liaison between engineering and operations for capital projects. Identifies and executes improvement projects in the Reserve plant to promote cost savings and to improve the Overall Equipment Effectiveness. Manages site OPTECH process. Leads the transfer of new product technology and products from R&D and the Business Line Departments to the Reserve plant. Develops new work instructions and initiates modifications to existing work instructions. Leads OPHR process, manages safety reviews (PHA) and provides follow up service on action items. Designs safety instrumented systems and other engineering controls per OPHR process. Designs relief systems per API and ASME codes. Updates and manages P&ID's, initiates and closes emoc's as necessary. Helps with day to day trouble shooting, corrective actions, etc. within the plant.  This position is responsible for mentoring lesser experienced engineers. Leads EO and PO supplier audits as necessary. Provides technical support with relation to safe handling and operation of ethylene and propylene oxides and their reactors and storage containers. Works closely with process safety to ensure safe operation of the alkoxylation reactors and oxide storage areas as well as to ensure compliance with PSM regulations and program. Leads site PSM efforts and program.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead site PSM program in Reserve by managing closure of PHA recommendations where engineering is responsible, facilitating changes through the MOC process, updating the Process Safety Information for Reserve as changes are made, maintains evergreen OPHR document.
  • Ensure compliance with PSM regulations and works with process safety as needed to ensure compliance. Lead preparation for PSM audits and ensures documentation is available when needed.
  • Identify and execute improvement projects in the Reserve plant to reduce manufacturing costs and to improve Overall Equipment Effectiveness, safety etc.
  • Facilitate capital investment into the Reserve plant by developing project scopes, participating in the selection of new process equipment, designing process control strategies and commissioning.
  • Provide technical support for the Reserve plant by troubleshooting equipment and identifying and executing process control system improvements.
  • Size relief valves, implement safety items, perform root cause investigations, providing quick corrective action where possible and if not possible providing a quick plan for implementing corrective actions.
  • Lead transfer of new products from R&D and Business Line Departments to the Reserve Plant.
 

REQUIREMENTS

  • B.S. in Chemical Engineering. 

  • 5 years of process engineering and controls experience. 

  • Honeywell TDC 3000 or equivalent experience. 

  • Beneficial work experiences include support of optimization and productivity initiatives with operations, continuous improvement/Lean six Sigma, production engineering, process engineering or process R&D engineering and project engineering. 

  • Experience with PSM and operating plant hazard reviews and ethylene and propylene oxide handling and systems is an advantage.

  • Comfortable working in a plant environment.  Position requires working out in the plant directly with plant engineers, operations and maintenance staff on a regular basis.
  • Perform work utilizing a computer for extended periods of time.
  • Able to work independently with a high level of initiative and self-starting skills.
  • Ability to apply fundamental engineering and business principles.
  • Capability of handling a heavy workload, establishing priorities and adjusting priorities as dictated by business needs.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills.
  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to clearly and effectively communicate to more senior technical staff.
  • Strong computer skills and experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with Aspen Plus or other simulation software is an advantage.
  • Project Engineering experience from cradle to grave on capital projects.
