This position is a senior site position responsible for all E, H, S & S accountabilities and is focused on personnel safety, process safety, industrial hygiene, fire protection, emergency response, contractor safety, security and environmental compliance and permitting.  Monitors/audits the workplace to verify compliance with regulations, laws, company policy, site procedures and safe work practices.  This position is responsible for being informed about, interpreting and integrating regulatory policy and rules so that procedures and practices in place at the facility comply with the laws but do not create excessive costs.  This position is responsible for all site regulatory compliance for Air, water, waste, etc permitting and internal Evonik reporting compliance across all regions.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The ESH Manager is responsible for ensuring all Environmental, Safety & Health programs, procedures, training, work practices and controls are effectively implemented for Evonik Corporation at the Reserve Site.
  • Focus on identifying applicable safety & environmental regulations and risks in site operations.
  • Interact with Operations, SCM, Engineering, and ESH Corporate to implement acceptable systems in order to ensure compliance and conformance to ESH Policies and Management System.
  • Evaluate, identify and ensure that the plant operations follow and adhere to proven and standardized ESH procedures, policies and rules by all assigned team members, visitors, customers and contractors entering the plants or properties. 
  • Perform regular Environmental & Safety audits and efficiency testing, identifying poor work procedures, poor safety work behavior and develop remedial actions in co-ordination with the management and leadership team.
  • Coach and provide support to Operations, Maintenance, Lab & Management System Managers to drive the Site culture and continuous improvement programs
 

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree in Science, Engineering or related field (Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Biology)
  • 5+ years of related experience in an industrial environment
  • Be skilled and knowledgeable in hazard and exposure identification, auditing and inspections; conducting ESH training. 
  • Excellent chemical and analytical knowledge, deep knowledge of handling hazardous chemicals 
  • Advanced knowledge of ESH compliance and regulatory requirements
  • Good knowledge of several IT-Tools (MS -Office, SAP)
  • Knowledge of safety management systems
  • Management skills and deep understanding of the business aspects in ESH operation
