The Associate Director-Formulation and Application Services Labs is responsible for managing and supervising the administrative and technical activities of the group’s technicians, analytical scientists, and formulation scientists to ensure successful execution of customer projects, internal projects and laboratory activities.   The position is also responsible for managing designated customer projects by leading project teams, assigning projects to team members, developing project strategy, driving project execution, coordinating laboratory experiments, and communicating with the customers.  The position also provides technical support to customers via phone, e-mail and in person visits and supports the sales team with customer inquiries as needed.  The Associate Director-FAS Labs is also responsible for coordinating lab equipment maintenance and chemical supply to support laboratory activities.  The Associate Director-FAS Labs is also responsible for coordinating with the global FAS teams, developing growth strategy for FAS lab and supporting sales and negotiations of license agreements with customers.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage and supervise the administrative and technical activities of the group’s technicians, analytical scientists and formulation scientists to ensure successful execution of customer projects and laboratory activities.
  • Provide technical support for pharmaceutical and nutritional customers through customer site visits, presentations, e-mail and phone conferences on EUDRAGIT®, EUDRAGUARD® and RESOMER® products.
  • Ensure successful execution of designated internal and customer projects through development of experimental design, coordination of laboratory activities, including formulation and analytical, coordination of meetings, communication with customers and adherence to controlled substance procedures (if applicable)
  • Conduct presentations and coordinate demonstrations at customer workshops
  • Be able to independently operate all equipment as specified.
  • Support purchase of new equipment by preparing related documentation, coordinating installation and qualification, communication with vendors, development of SOPs (standard operating procedures)
  • Provide training and guidance to the FAS team as needed for customer projects, new applications and new employees
  • Coordinate research and related lab activities for designated intern projects with the goal of publishing posters and data for publications.
  • Employee in this position may be required to handle and manage of hazardous waste and will be trained initially and annually thereafter on hazardous waste management and emergency response
  • Participate as a leader in applicable professional society or organization and contribute to programming.
  • Coordinate activities with global FAS teams.
  • Support sales and negotiations of license agreements with customers.  
 

REQUIREMENTS

  • PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science or related field experience with a minimum of five years’ experience managing/leading teams in the pharmaceutical industry; or Master’s Degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field with a minimum of five years’ work experience managing/leading teams pharmaceutical industry; or Bachelor’s of Science in the same fields with a minimum of ten years experience managing/leading teams in the pharmaceutical industry specifically in the formulation development of solid oral dosage forms 
  • Hands on experience in tableting, granulation, extrusion/spheronization, and fluid bed and pan coating unit operations is required. Experience with melt extrusion and spray-drying equipment is desirable.
  • Must be familiar with various solid dosage form analytical techniques such as dissolution, disintegration and related characterization techniques.
  • Must be able to write scientific reports and be proficient in the use of MS Power Point, Excel, Word, and graphing software etc.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and responsibilities in a timely manner; project management experience is a plus.
  • Laboratory management experience required.
  • Strong inter-personal skills.  Ability to lead.
  • Self-motivated, ability to take initiative, excellent customer service skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including presentation skills
  • Must have the ability to work well in a team
  • Travel: 10%
