The ‘Head of Regional Development’ position (RD) leads and is accountable for strategic and operational development of the NA region, including the regional platform, the operational and research sites and the businesses. This position functions with a cross-Divisional perspective.  The function provides strategic analysis of the NA regional markets, and creates regional development concepts. The function provides support to the businesses in finding M&A targets, tolling companies or business partners. The function actively markets the region’s operating sites for co-location of synergistic partners and is in the lead of such projects, including the contract negotiations. The function further manages the regional excellence departments Marketing & Sales Excellence, SEEC (Operational Excellence) and Supply Chain Excellence as well as venture capital activities. Regional Development is also leading the strategically important oil & gas industry team for Evonik with global activities and reach. Management of platform services like Logistic Services is the responsibility of this function.


The head of RD reports directly to the Regional President and assists on all strategic and tactical matters as they relate to corporate growth, sites and platform optimization and development, supply chain optimization, divestments and outsourcing projects. M&A target search for small to medium size targets are key element as well. The head of RD is member of the North America Leadership Team and interacts closely with regional and global business leaders and with Evonik corporate headquarter departments in Germany, such as Strategy, M&A, Integration & Separation, Regions, Communications, Digital, Sustainability and ESHQ.



  • Regional Development head leads regional development, including regional division- & corporate-funded business development activities.
  • Defining business development topics in alignment with divisions, business lines and corporate strategy/Region, taking cross-division perspective as a key element to ensure a positive impact for Evonik and benefit of individual business lines.
  • Develop partners for co-location at our major production sites to obtain raw material supplies, product offtake and general synergies through use of our real estate and support facilities. Regional Development is responsible for evaluation of feasibility and value of such co-locations to Evonik and holds project leadership in case of execution. Negotiates and concludes the contracts for such long lasting relationships.
  • Identifying and advancing potential M&A targets for the business lines in the region, mostly upon request of the businesses. This activity is in close alignment with corporate strategy, divisional business development and corporate M&A. Leading operational due diligence in such projects.
  • Support and lead divestment projects, managing and negotiating transition service agreements, leading prospective buyer interactions.
  • Drive strategic analyses on a regional level based on regional and local market intelligence. For that, RD is looking at overall topics like impact of cheap oil & gas availability on raw materials.
  • Manage the oil & gas industry team.
  • Identify and develop new business opportunities based on local expertise
  • Coordinate RD resources for topics ensuring high utilization and prioritization 
  • Responsible for planning and aligning BL/division demand, and communication to the Region 
  • Support talent development and develop capabilities and skillset of RD resources
  • Actively engage in inter-and cross-regional exchange
  • Manage the excellence functions in the region.
  • Manage the venture capital group in the region.
  • Manage additional service functions with developmental character.


  • This is normally acquired through a combination of commercial and financial experience, based on a Master Degree in engineering, chemistry or finance & accounting, or similar on the job experience as well as a minimum of five years of experience in senior-level management, 10 years of experience would be preferred 
  • Experience in strategic planning and execution. Knowledge of contracting, negotiating, and change management. Knowledge of chemistry or chemical engineering, of finance, budgeting and cost control. Knowledge of federal and state incentive programs. Ability to analyze technical and financial data and prepare proposals for board decision. 
  • Work requires professional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to motivate teams to produce quality materials within tight timeframes and simultaneously manage several projects. Ability to participate in and facilitate group meetings. 
  • Due to the necessary coordination with Evonik headquarters in Essen, Germany on multiple organizational levels, excellent knowledge of the global organizational structure is required.
  • For strategic support of the North American businesses, experience in operational business is essential. 
  • The work requires willingness to work a flexible schedule and frequent travel to the Evonik Corporation sites in North America and occasionally overseas.  20% - International and Domestic
