Evonik seeks a results oriented individual to join an existing team that manages energy supply to multiple industrial manufacturing sites in the US and Canada.  In this role, you will support the company’s energy supply activities. The candidate must be able to understand key market conditions, regulations and contracting structures related to industrial use.


Regular tasks include: analyzing site use and cost data, evaluating regulated utility tariffs and 3rd party supply offers, developing relationships with internal management. Gaining and providing insight regarding market changes. Evaluating energy taxes, providing ISO 50001 support as may be needed, carbon tax program assessments and compliance. Provide suggestions to improve cost and quality of service, review and approve detailed and significant dollar invoices.



  • Ability to understand and analyze utility and 3rd party tariffs, electric power offers, contracts and invoices
  • Understand the locational, daily, monthly and seasonality value of electricity
  • Have experience with renewable electricity procurement
  • Provide advice on electricity purchasing strategies to obtain best possible cost and at lowest risk
  • Participate in Request for Proposals process to identify and quantify price, terms and conditions risks, recommend a best offer
  • Assist with energy forecasting
  • Evaluate and approve detailed and technical invoices for accuracy
  • Manage energy data files and systems
  • Provide ISO 50001 support as required
  • Interact with Evonik’s senior management, internal departments, manufacturing sites, third party and regulated utility suppliers. Build and maintain strong relationships with same.
  • Interact with overseas counterparts in Germany and China
  • Occasional site visits


  • 3 + years of utility/retail industrial energy procurement required along with a strong understanding of power and gas markets
  • 2+ years of retail power transaction/contracting experience in the US and Canada
  • Strong knowledge of power procurement and renewable energy
  • Knowledge of current energy industry trends
  • CEP, CEM, REP or CSDP certifications from Association of Energy Engineers are a plus
  • Understanding of common industry trade publications and key price points
  • Attention to detail and accuracy, work under time constraints and ability to meet deadlines
  • Bachelor’s degree required (eg . Engineering, Economics, Business)
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills
  • Ability to learn and use new data systems
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 10% of the time
  • Familiarity with renewable energy credit programs
  • Familiarity with CO2 tax schemes
  • Familiarity with ISO standards in general
  • Team player with good communication, analytical and time management skills
  • Ability to communicate complex information to a diverse audience including senior management. ­­­
