Purpose of the position:

  • To contribute to profitable growth of Silanes in India.
  • The functional Silane business in India has shown over the recent years a strong growth. As many local customers and international companies are expanding or setting up new production basis in India, they are expecting also local competent technical support. This support cannot be given by our distributors as they do not have in depth product knowledge. Therefore our sales force needs a technical counterpart in order to give our customer the best possible support.
  • Furthermore to adjust our application recipes to the local requirements.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead team to provide technical assistance to customers with trials at Evonik or customer place, formulation development support, manufacturing support, troubleshooting.
  • Providing technical expertise, know-how and technical service of Silanes in different applications to Indian customers, distributors and prospects.
  • Generating technical application data fine-tuned for the Indian market.
  • Identifying technical value for customers to contribute to value pricing.
  • Proactively generating business opportunities, leads and identify new technical trends.
  • Leading joint developing projects with Indian customers.
  • Monitoring patents and scientific articles to stay up-to-date.
  • Promoting established and new products by presentations (e.g. trade shows) and technical articles for the Indian market.
  • Build strong and trustful relationship with technical people of customers.
  • Interact, share information and collaborate with global team of different functions of Evonik.
  • Position must have strong technical foundation of the Silane application and conduct Lab test according to SOP.
  • Develop and implement SOP relating to Lab Safety, regulations and daily operations in the Silane Lab. Also provide input and assistance for renewal of Licenses.
  • Develop/Customize formulations received from Germany to meet local customer requirements. Carry out trials in-house and also conduct field trials at the external customer.
  • Demonstrate performances to customers from the results obtained from the trials.
  • Visit customers all India to promote products and provide technical service.
  • Provide technical training to the sales staff of our distributors.
  • Prepare technical brochures content and other technical information /presentation to suit the local customer thus boosting product awareness.
  • Technical cooperation with other BU’s in order to find the most efficient interface towards our common customers.
  • Close cooperation with the local Sales Manager for Functional Silanes.
  • Gather and maintain competitive intelligence, report trends and keep close track on competitor technical activities.
  • Monitor competitor products and activities and do evaluations periodically.
  • Develop application data in lab to support specialty silane growth, and create trials, projects, complete the trials and projects independently and summarize the results to support commercial approach.

Requirements of the position:
Education, Certification and / or relevant experience required

  • PhD in Silane Chemistry or Organic Chemistry or Master degree, major in Polymer science / chemistry field with a mimimum of 5 years of experience in Technical Service.
  • Formulation expertise in Coatings, Adhesives & Sealants, Silanes in Industrial Applications preferred
  • Experienced in laboratory management
