Manage all operational aspects of Business Line Silanes production plants in Mobile, Alabama. Ensure a quality product, produced in cost efficient and timely manner, under safe and environmentally acceptable conditions. Maintain a well-trained, well-motivated and content work force. Meet corporate objectives and customer requirements through effective planning, organization, direction, control and analysis of all production and support services. Ensure compliance with all legal and other requirements. Recommend, initiate and implement measures for further development of Silanes with either existing production processes or new investment projects, to achieve process concepts and designs that are economically optimal, providing high product quality, maximizing plant availability and offering cost competitive solutions. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure the safety and health of all employees and contractors working in the plants as well as protection of the environment. Consistently strive to improve EHS performance in a proactive manner by addressing leading indicators and utilizing innovative techniques and programs. Manage all operations in compliance with federal, state and local regulations along with all Evonik policies. Strive to exceed Evonik sustainability goals such as waste minimization, CO2 reduction and reduction in water usage.
  • Optimize site operations improving efficiencies in order to address increased product demand and change in product mix. Evaluate processes to realize additional market opportunities and increase overall EBITDA performance. Develop proposals for increasing site activities in support of business line and business division goals and objectives.
  • Oversee fixed cost budget at more than $15 million per year for production operations. Develop proposals for EHS objectives, facility growth, personnel development and minimization of fixed costs. Support implementation of capital projects ranging up to $25 million per year ensuring compliance, expansion and asset preservation. Ensure all spending activities are conducted according to Evonik standards. Establish budget cost controls to produce product, which can be sold at competitive prices.
  • Implement Evonik policies and establish facility policies for production personnel. Manage a salaried workforce ensuring consistent application of site protocol and development of personnel. Direct efforts to ensure corporate initiatives in the areas of EHSQ, IT, HR, Controlling, Procurement, PT, EPS/TPM are implemented and supported by all production personnel.
  • Support the realization of product sales at $40+ million per year. Support BL Silanes efforts to grow market share and margin. Meet or exceed customer expectations and continually improve processes. Optimize scheduling and inventory systems to reduce lead times and optimize net working capital.
  • Support Mobile site initiatives and represent BL Silanes in site activities where needed. Assist in representing Evonik in local community awareness programs and state activities in order to enhance Evonik’s reputation in the area.
  • Select, train and continuously evaluate manpower to develop a well-trained and knowledgeable workforce consistent with plant policies, rules and regulations.
 

REQUIREMENTS

  • BS/MS in Chemical Engineering preferred or equivalent plant experience. Strong technical background. 
  • 10+ years manufacturing chemical industry experience or related industry
  • Ability to provide solutions to complex process problems, which require the use of ingenuity and creativity 
  • Knowledge of techniques in mechanical and thermal processes, process design, manufacturing technology and automation of processes 
  • Environmental experience is a plus 
  • Knowledge of SAP and accounting principles a plus 
  • Knowledge of Silanes chemistry and production processes preferred 
  • Supervisory experience having strong leadership and team building skills with ability to drive change 
  • Knowledge of chemical engineering computer tools a plus
