To define, organize, plan, direct and execute Evonik’s major capital projects for an engineering discipline (Electrical, Process Control, Piping or Civil) with a medium level of complexity with focus in the Americas region (North, Central and South). To ensure that all engineering and construction work for capital projects is carried out in a timely, cost effective, safe and technically superior manner in accordance with accepted engineering practices, governmental regulations and Evonik standards. To serve as a technical resource for the Business Segments with specific know-how in an engineering discipline and stateof-the-art engineering practices. This is in order to keep the company equal to or ahead of the competition regarding operational and total life cycle cost. Incumbent will promote and maintain the principles of and responsibilities related to Responsible Care within his/her assigned areas of responsibility.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Direct the definition and development of the most economical project scope based on objectives provided by the Business Groups in cooperation with the Project Manager and Project Responsible.
  • Generate, direct and approve designs, specifications, drawing and instructions with emphasis on lowest possible investment cost and efficient and safe plant operability.
  • To be fully responsible for the preparation of cost estimates of capital projects within relevant engineering discipline for basic engineering, detail design and construction.
  • Establishment and management of the project engineering discipline organization for a clear division of tasks and responsibilities in the project team for various project phases.
  • To be fully responsible technically and managerially for the definition, organization and execution of capital projects in relevant engineering discipline and for the compliance with all regulatory and corporate requirements.
  • Direct preparation of the front end engineering documentation. Monitor and report project progress to the Project Manager and Project Controller on a regular basis with emphasis on project cost, schedule and project scope changes.
  • To be fully accountable for the final project scope and total investment costs in relevant engineering discipline.
  • Direct, motivate and synchronize a discipline engineering team (direct personnel and contract engineers) to overcome obstacles and to execute even fast track projects in a quality manner.
  • Negotiate and authorize contracts associated with the engineering discipline in cooperation with the Project Manager and Procurement Department.
  • Review and authorize capital expenditures as defined in the Authorized Signers List for Capital Projects.
  • Direct the preparation of the design and as built documentation
 

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's Degree in Automation,  Electrical, Mechanical or Chemical Engineering. Masters preferred.
  • 10+ years' of experience in the Process Industry.
  • Broad knowledge in the area of BPCS & SIS systems (Architecture, Programming. Troubleshooting), preferably Emerson Delta V or Siemens PCS7
  • Experience in scoping and estimating large Automation projects like DCS conversions  
  • Experience in leading multi million dollar Automation projects in a Project Manager function 
  • Experience in leading inhouse automation teams of 3-6 people on automation projects in design and start up
  • Capable of leading EPCM automation teams on $ 100 M + capital projects
  • Experience with Packaged systems
  • Seasoned knowledge in Continuous & Batch processes
  • Capable in assisting PHA’s
  • Experience in leading FAT’s, SAT’s in large capital projects
  • Experience in design, commissioning & start up of automation portions in large capital projects
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written)
