This Scientist position is within Care Solutions, but spans across many different Business Lines. The core chemistries practiced include petrochemical and oleochemical transformations; more specifically amination, hydrogenation, oxidation, condensation and ethoxylation. The Scientist develops and executes upon independent ideas for the development of new technologies and synthetic routes, leads projects and offers technical support to our sales and marketing force and customers, both internal and external. The Scientist works independently and provides guidance to others in the lab. Typical additional responsibilities include project management and execution, contractor management, customer visits and presentations, idea generation, materials analysis and data interpretation, and report preparation. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Hands-On Synthesis / Product & Process Development

  • Oleo and Petrochemical synthesis
    • 1L to 50L reaction scale
    • Project directed work as a result of interactions with internal and external customers
  • Process development and Plant support for the Care Solutions product lines at up to 5 manufacturing facilities in the Americas
    • NPI Work – writing tech packages, setting specifications, interacting with Regulatory, etc.
    • Investigating and developing corrective actions for plant chemistry-based production problems

Administrative Activities (project management, safety, training, meetings, etc.)

  • Using SAP to investigate production specifications and BOM’s
  • Bi-monthly reports and ongoing project summaries
  • Regular (monthly) company required training
  • Regular group meetings that require written updates

Leadership based Collaboration (Data interpretation, coaching, education)

  • Working with other Team members to help interpret reaction/ analytical
  • results
  • Helping educate non-R&D personnel on products and processes
  • Coaching team members on new or unfamiliar techniques

Travel (Conferences, plants, etc.)

  • Travel to production facilities for New Product Introductions
    • Travel can be 0-5 times per year, depending on chemistry and plant NPI occurring at
  • Presenting or chairing at a conference
 

REQUIREMENTS

  • BS Degree with 15 years of experience or MS Degree with 7+ years of experience, (Ph.D. in chemistry with at least three years of experience is preferred) or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Industrial synthesis and/or process optimization experience, especially related to amines and/or alkoxylation chemistry
  • Ability to lead projects and individuals
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills; ability to work within cross-regional and cross-cultural teams
  • Attention to safety and safe work practices
