This position is the initial contact for all QC Laboratory and quality related issues &/or questions with regards to raw material purchased and all material manufactured in the plant. The QC Technician oversees the QC laboratory area(s) to include maintaining equipment and ensuring proper upkeep for analytical instrumentation.  The QC Technician is keeps reagents stocked, supplies stocked, and practices good housekeeping. The QC Technician performs laboratory-related SAP transactions.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Carry out QC testing per schedule for finished products and assist as necessary with in-process testing. 
  • Maintain proficiency in all required QC tests and operation of QC equipment. 
  • Ensure all QC records are maintained in timely and orderly state. 
  • Prepare and standardize reagents. 
  • Order lab materials and supplies. 
  • Formulate spray wax and other batches as necessary. 
  • Assist Plant Operators lab testing. 
  • Ensure reference standard testing is done per procedure. 
  • Ensure data is entered into SAP in a timely manner. 
  • Keep the lab clean and stocked. 
  • Continue to work on improving accuracy of laboratory testing methods. 
  • Participate in audits to maintain compliance. 
  • Perform quality and environmental tests as needed. 
  • Perform shelf-life testing. 
  • Prepare buffers and provide attention to HPLC’s, to include general maintenance. 
  • Provide general maintenance of GC’s within the QC Lab. 
  • Calibrate/verify equipment as needed. 
  • Ensure lab equipment calibration is up to date, to include record keeping. 
  • Audit aspects of the lab to ensure that procedures are properly followed. 
  • Provide support to the Plant Operators, Management and Plant when needed. 
  • Label and maintain retains; keep retains organized and accessible. 
  • Have a working knowledge and be able to perform all necessary ASTM methods required by customers. 
  • Conduct/assist in lab training of Production Operators. 
  • Perform tests and other rudimentary requirements as defined by the Manager-Quality Services. 
  • Proper storage, inspection and management of Hazardous and Universal Waste following Site procedures and RCRA regulations. 
  • Submit cost savings ideas; support site Continual Improvement and properly care for all company equipment, safety supplies, etc.
 

REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum 2 years of college or equivalent experience (chemistry or equivalent/related field preferred). 
  • Knowledge of analytical instrumentation and techniques; good lab practices; strong math skills. Experience/ability to work 12-hour shifts required.
  • Instrumentation Preferred (e.g., GC, HPLC, IR, etc.) ISO 9001, RC14001 
  • Process chemistry and statistics knowledge preferred. 
  • Computer literate (e.g., SAP, Microsoft Office)
