In general, the key responsibilities for the Director of Supply Chain are strategic vision and oversight for all supply chain activities at the Tippecanoe plant site including production planning, forecasting, warehousing, central stores, shipping, and customer service. The Director of Supply Chain is also a member of the Tippecanoe Leadership Team (TLT).

The Director of Supply Chain is responsible for overseeing all site supply chain activities. This includes day-to-day oversight of the production planning and materials management groups, as well as strategic planning for the direction of the site based on future business goals, production requirements, and customer needs. 

The Director of Supply Chain is responsible for establishing and communicating site and supply chain goals that are in line with business, customer, and compliance requirements. This includes all aspects of the site production schedules. Communication and internal/external stakeholder management are critical components of the role, as well as creativity and flexibility regarding asset utilization and scheduling. 

The Director of Supply Chain is a member of the Tippecanoe Leadership Team (TLT), which is responsible for maintaining the day to day operations of the site and for setting and executing the strategic vision, including succession planning and talent development. He or she is therefore responsible for driving improvement at all levels of the site, and for sponsoring or leading improvement programs for the department, site, or business line.



  • People/Organizational Management
    • Provide direct oversight of the strategic and tactical activities of the supply chain department, including warehousing (shipping, receiving, dispensing, material movement), central stores, production planning, forecasting, new business assessment, and customer service
    • Ensure proper resource utilization and align staffing to effectively support all areas to meet business goals and customer expectations  
    • Train and develop departmental personnel for technical competence, expertise, and continuous improvement within the organization
    • Actively coach and mentor departmental staff, peers, and other internal and external stakeholders to the Tippecanoe site to share learnings, resolve issues and develop future leaders
    • Responsible for performance management of direct reports; define yearly goals and objectives, provide routine coaching and feedback, assist with career planning and development, complete interim and year-end reviews
    • Assign personnel and oversee support for corporate/regional/business line supply chain initiatives; provide coaching, leadership, and mentorship to ensure success
    • Participate in sitewide HR activities, including strategic activities (succession planning, talent nominations, tuition reimbursements, etc) and general program development (internships/SPEs, career fair recruiting, etc)
  • Strategy/Business Objectives
    • Responsible for creating and maintaining the site operations schedules and production plans to deliver business goals and meet customer expectations
    • Establish - in collaboration with the business line and the global supply chain organization - strategic goals, objectives and metrics/KPIs for the site supply chain organization; ensure they are appropriately resourced, tracked and communicated; report results to onsite and offsite stakeholders
    • Communicate and drive business goals at all levels of the organization to drive site priorities. Manage the business of the site and provide strategic guidance to ensure site revenue and NWC optimization, and delivery of customer commitments on-time, in-full (OTIF)
    • Lead monthly sales and operations planning (S&OP) meetings; monitor and adjust production plans and forecasts as needed in direct collaboration with the Evonik sales teams for all product lines
    • Responsible for overseeing cost estimation, scheduling and forecasting of all new business opportunities and requests for proposals (RFPs); creatively manage the production schedule to accommodate commercial customer forecasts, new customer business, and scope changes
    • Responsible for all site warehouses including inventory accuracy, material movement workflow, and spare parts/technical goods
    • Ensure compliance with warehouse material storage requirements, import/export regulations including FDA, TSCA, US Customs, DOT, USDA, etc.
    • Lead and/or support communications and interactions with auditors, customers, and other external parties regarding product deliveries, scheduling, warehousing audits and inventory counts, or other supply chain activities
    • Member of the Tippecanoe Leadership Team (TLT); lead and/or participate in site strategy and steering meetings (business lead team, ESHS lead team, quality lead team, HR lead team); lead and/or participate in continuous improvement initiatives, near miss reviews, routine safety walkthroughs, etc
    • Champion and sponsor productivity and continuous improvement initiatives across the site, fostering a culture of performance and speed
    • Oversee the management of net working capital through inventory and production planning strategies
    • Develop and actively manage the department budget, and drive iQuality
  • Each individual is responsible to meet fundamental cGMP requirements relating to their conduct and work practices to ensure the SISPQ (Safety, Identity, Strength, Purity, Quality) of the products manufactured at Evonik Tippecanoe Laboratories.  This includes but is not limited to the following:
    • Adherence to all written instructions.
    • Timely reporting of all deviations to supervision.
    • Training on each activity is completed and current and that each employee understands their assigned duties.
    • Strict documentation practices are followed to ensure that all steps of the operation are appropriately documented.
    • Ensure to maintain the work area in a state of cleanliness and sanitation through good housekeeping practices and applying good personal health practices.
    • Ensure the security and safety of the product through the reporting of any potential risk to supervision immediately.
    • Ensure the safety of the personnel and product by wearing proper PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) according to the operation being executed.
    • Each individual should report any action that they believe could impact the SISPQ of any product immediately to supervision.mprovements / cost savings to departmental operations
  • Environmental, Safety, Health, & Security (ESHS) 
    • Adhere to ESHS programs, rules, & procedures.
    • Assume personal accountability for individual behaviors related to ESHS activities.
    • Have the appropriate knowledge and tools prior to performing a task.
    • Complete all required ESHS training and remain current with applicable learning plans at all times.
    • Report all injuries to Employee Health Services or Security and supervision within the same shift of the incident occurring.
    • Inform direct supervision of any ESHS hazards or concerns in the workplace.
    • Provide feedback and coaching to coworkers on both safe and unsafe behaviors and conditions.
    • Actively participate in the ESHS management system as directed by supervision.


  • Bachelor's Degree required, preferred in Supply Chain or related field
  • MBA or higher education would be an asset
  • Leadership experience
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written), including stakeholder management and the ability to interact with suppliers and customers 
  • Strong negotiating and decision making skills
  • Strong understanding of production and operations business processes
  • Expertise and experience in running a supply chain
  • Proven experience in supply chain management
  • Understanding of complex supply chain, multiproduct/multipiece logistics
  • SAP experience preferred
  • Pharma/GMP experience preferred
  • Six Sigma or continious improvement experience preferred
