The Manager of Project Engineering provides leadership, coaching, and administration for the project engineering team. The incumbent will gain an in-depth understanding of the Evonik investment process and incorporating all the relevant aspects and parameters from the perspective of compatibility with the established strategy.  Position will have close interaction with different business line organizations, manufacturing, and maintenance, and have an opportunity to further develop leadership skills.

The Manager of Project Engineering directs the project engineering department with the objective to achieve the Business Line and Site Goals. This requires a uniform assessment of the investments within the context of the planning and approval processes. This position provides supervision for organizing, planning and direction of the project engineering. The department is responsible to define, organize, plan and execute capital investment projects and to be cost effective, timely, and safe utilizing state of the art engineering concepts. The incumbent has to ensure that all activities are in accordance with accepted engineering practices, regulations, cGMP and Evonik Corporation policies and standards. The position provides technical expertise to maintain and continuously improve project engineering processes in order to minimize costs and to ensure the technical means for safe and high-quality operation.


  • Pharmacuticual or Chemical Manufacturing Industry
  • Direct report of a 7-10+ person team of project managers and contractors
  • Capital Project Management experience is required 
  • Bachelor Degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering
  • Minimum of 8 years of previous plant experience


  • Direct report of a 7-10+ person team of project managers and contractors. 
  • Direct the project engineering team, providing technical expertise, technical services, capital delivery expertise and service, for customers at Tippecanoe Laboratories.
  • Responsible for leading the organization through expense, capital, headcount, and business planning activities aligning with site and corporate business plans.
  • Resource, personnel and development planning
  • CapEx budget planning, supervision and control of the site CapEx budget
  • Responsible for meeting site objectives in core areas of capital delivery, engineering support, improvement of equipment systems, and key support for productivity projects utilizing both external and internal resources
  • Initiate and influence key decisions and take overall responsibility for time schedule, costs, quality and plant operability
  • Manage and direct an accurate and timely preparation for engineering reports as required by Evonik Corporation
  • Initiation, development and implementation of the investment and asset strategy for current and future business
  • Initiate and foster a continuous improvement and optimization process
  • Monitor and report project engineering metrics on a regular basis
  • Serve as project responsible/ project manager or consultant, when necessary, on large capital projects/customer projects 
  • Work with project engineers and other departments to improve regulatory compliance, reliability, and safety
  • Initiate and introduce standards, tools, procedures, safety, cGMP and compliance initiatives in assigned area
  • Monitor and report assigned cost center metrics on regular basis
  • Help establish departmental goals and effectively communicates direction, objectives, and results as needed to the department, Tippe plant site, and Evonik
  • Employee development including succession planning, promotions, individual development, department development, training programs on/off the job.  
  • Ongoing coaching and mentoring of employees within the organization
  • Work with peers across areas to share key learnings as needed


  • Bachelor Degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering
  • Minimum of 8 years of previous plant experience
  • Capital project leadership experience – Lead Capital Expansion 
  • The position requires skills in leading other functional managers who are themselves capable of successfully leading through challenges and guiding opportunities and improvements. 
  • Direct, motivate and synchronize the engineering team to overcome obstacles and find opportunities for continuous improvements.
  • Ability to teach the fundamentals of project management and plant engineering.
  • Presentation and justification of engineering aspects to the site and business line.
  • Interpersonal skills with emphasis on oral and written communication 
  • Possess a broad knowledge of plant design, production, project management, maintenance management, policies and standards.
  • Possess broad based engineering and maintenance skills, as well as planning and organizing
  • Demonstrated technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills 
  • Skills in successfully overcoming challenges and identifying opportunities for improvements
