The position will be responsible for maintaining equipment both in maintenance and project work at Tippecanoe Laboratories. The mechanic will perform preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs primarily on rotating equipment. The mechanic will perform some pipefitting, carpenter, basic sheet metal fabrication and rigging tasks. 


 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Perform all duties in accordance with all applicable regulations and company policies (e.g., Quality, Safety, Environmental).

Maintenance Work

  • Troubleshooting and repair on mechanical equipment and piping systems, making repairs for longevity.  
  • Perform Preventative Maintenance on equipment to keep it in good operational condition.
  • Typical responsibilities will include bearing replacement, agitator seal replacement, pump repairs and rebuilds, equipment setting and alignment, manufacture and machining of replacement parts, and troubleshooting. 
  • Demonstrate proficient usage of dial indicators, micrometers, laser alignment equipment, and other related instruments
  • Demonstrate ability to perform high precision machining and milling.
  • Exhibit Pipefitting skills such as, basic fabrication, threading, and repairs.  
  • Support piping needs for process changeovers and glass-lined equipment repairs.
  • Document work performed in the CMMS, including history notes and time charges

Improvement Work

  • Make appropriate suggestions and corrections to discrepancies found in documentation, drawings, BOMs/parts lists, procedures, work instructions, etc.
  • Provide job knowledge and skills to support process improvement and special projects.  
  • Work with a variety of individuals, such as engineers, other craftspeople, automation, and other resources on process upgrades and equipment changes.
  • Provide input to engineering on design, installation, and maintenance of new equipment.  

Compliance

  • Maintenance work performed must meet all Safety, Quality and Environmental requirements. Work on this type of equipment must be documented correctly in the CMMS.
  • STOP any job that cannot be completed safety or within the existing policies or procedures.  
  • Follow all site and departmental safety policies and procedure requirements on the job.
  • Participate in crew safety meetings and developing safety action plans within the crew.  
  • Maintains 100% current and complete with ITP.  
     
 

REQUIREMENTS

  • 4 years of industrial maintenance experience (mechanic, machinist, millwright) .
  • Must be willing to become multi-skilled in both mechanical and pipefitting trades.
  • Excellent computer skills to utilize the CMMS, Word, Excel, etc.
  • Have a strong mechanical aptitude, with demonstrated ability to read and use manufacturer’s service manuals.  
  • Strong communications skills, both verbal and written.
  • Rigging/lifting training
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a team member.  
  • Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with a variety of customers and other crafts.  
  • Excellent planning, organizing, and documentation skills
  • Must have mindset to work safely.
  • Prior experience with the department is preferred.
  • Maintenance Mechanic, Machinist, and/or Millwright, skills
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must complete required ITP training.
