The NA Process Engineering Manager ensures that a culture of safety is a value and is a part of everyone’s daily life.  This position ensures the organization, planning, direction and control of technical changes/ improvements and technical documentation for the Evonik Production Sites in Janesville, Milton, Mapleton and Reserve within the Care Solutions business segment. The position manages the Process Engineer Lead, four Control Engineers, two Safety Engineers as well as oversees contracted (internal and external) professional and non-professional services at all sites. Additionally, this position manages two Maintenance Managers in Janesville and Milton WI. This position will require travel based on where support is needed. This position will be a key member of the team to prioritize Process Work between the sites and will be responsible to ensuring both group and CAPEX budgets are adhered.  

The position provides the technical direction, expertise and leadership to maintain and continuously improve the chemical process plants to minimize cost, ensure the technical means for safe operation, compliance with regulations, high product quality and to guarantee the desired technical plant availability. Additionally, the NA Process Engineering Manager will lead the planning and prioritization of capital improvements at all sites and ensuring annual budgets are maintained. It is essential that the NA Process Engineering Manager collaborates and effectively interacts with other members of all Site Management Teams. The NA Process Engineering Manager must have effective communication and coordination skills to interact with the Site Heads, Plant Managers, site support functions such as EHSQ, Supply Chain, R&D, Continuous Improvement, Engineering and Maintenance as well as external to the site such as Procurement, Controlling, Sales & Marketing, Asset Management and Auditing functions.

This position will provide engineering expertise in support of the elements of OSHA PSM (MOC’s, PHA’s, PSSR’s, P&ID’s, PSI, etc.).  Completes assigned action items related to safety and quality such as PHA items, TAN cards and COPA’s.  Support the continual improvement of the sites MI plan.



  • Team Leadership and Management
    • Maintain and Prioritize a multi-site Project/Process list, with prioritization through a multisite leadership team.
    • Maintain a Department spending Budget and control.
    • Ensure Corporate, Local and Compliance Standards are maintained and standardized where possible and project Documentation and Quality standards are met.
    • Develop and Motivate team members.
  • Environmental, Health and Safety
    • Responsible for creating a safety culture that it is everyone’s individual value to work safely.
    • Ensure all Evonik EHS policies are followed by all employees, contractors and visitors.
    • Responsible for all employees following all federal, state and local laws and regulations. Examples: OSHA PSM, RMP, RC 14001, ACC, EPA Clean Air Act Title V, RCRA, Large Quantity Generator Hazardous Waste, OCPSF, local POTW and ensure compliance.
    • Responsible to ensure PHA and HIRA requirements for all sites are met, and actions are tracked and completed.
    • Responsible to complete hazardous waste requirements.
    • Responsible for Confined Space Entry, LOTO, Safe Work Permit and Hot Work programs.
  • Process Engineering
    • Ensures all operations are carried out with safety, environment and community in mind.
    • Responsible to develop and Manage the Project List/Capital Plans with the NA Project Engineering Manager.
    • Responsible for PSM and RMP at the sites.
    • Interface and support external site projects led by PT&E.
    • Responsible to respond to all plant emergencies.
    • Responsible to support New Product Development of products.
    • Ensure all P&ID’s are updated in appropriate time.
    • Ensure plant infrastructure and utilities are capable of meeting production needs.
    • Responsible for all Siemens and Delta V control and DCS systems.
  • Continuous Improvement
    • Responsible to ensure all manufacturing processes are followed so that production of product is optimized.
    • Responsible to determine root causes for variations, develop and implement action items.
    • Responsible to identify opportunities within Stable Ops, Operating Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), Improve Cycle Time, Capacity, and Yield performance/ consistency and drive implementation. 
    • Work with Production and Business Lines on the development of Capital Plan.
  • People Development
    • Foster a positive work environment characterized by an atmosphere of mutual respect, trust, accountability and open communication.
    • Responsible to see and hire replacements as required.
    • Ensures that all employees follow policies and procedures.
    • Ensure annual reviews are completed as required.
    • Ensure group is developed and have appropriate knowledge.
  • Supply Chain/Asset Management 
    • Ensure a good workflow of information between Engineering, Maintenance and the supply chain.
    • Ensure a good communication between Asset management and the Plant exists for Capital and NPI’s.


  • B.S or M.S. in Engineering (Chemical preferred).
  • 10+ years of experience related to Process Engineering, Project Engineering, or Maintenance.
  • Experience in a Chemical Manufacturing facility preferred.
  • Experience managing maintenance or engineering department.
  • Experience with OSHA CFR 1910.119 PSM and EPA RMP regulations and compliance.
  • Process Improvement, Process Design, and project implementation experience.
  • Experience with process hazard analysis (PHA) and HAZIDs/HAZOPs.
  • Continuous Improvement, Lean Six Sigma and Total Plant/Process Management training and experience a plus.
  • Comfort working in a plant environment and on teams comprised of operations, maintenance, engineering, quality, safety, and planning and working directly on the plant floor.
  • Perform work utilizing a computer for extended periods of time.
  • Able to work independently with a high level of initiative and self-starting skills.
  • Ability to apply fundamental engineering and business principles.
  • Capable of handling a heavy workload, establishing priorities and adjusting priorities as dictated by site and business needs.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills.
  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to clearly and effectively communicate to site personnel and key stakeholders.
  • Strong computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office 365.
