The Technical Manager leads the maintenance and engineering department. The purpose of the position is to ensure optimization and the increase of the efficiency of the plant. Oversees all the technical areas of the site including, but not limited to the technical assets, repairs and upgrades and plant facilities, process areas and controls, production areas and utilities.

Ensures compliance with all the Evonik and Government Agencies policies, regulations and procedures.

 

Ensure proper management of engineering projects and capital improvements and optimize manufacturing processes and provide knowledge for effective operations.  Provides engineering expertise to maintain and improve EH&S, quality, GMP’s, throughput and uptime, and cost, ultimately to help plant achieve success in all areas.

 

Ensures that the proper maintenance strategies (RBM, Mechanical Integrity, HAZIDs, Precision Maintenance, PdM, PM, and other reliability methods); are created and implemented in the Havre de Grace campus, with focus and priority to the manufacturing plant in Havre de Grace.

Works under the leadership and direction of the Site Head and performs implicit and explicit duties as assigned by Site Head.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for promoting an efficient work environment with a key focus on the employees own safety and the safety of others and ensure that company and governmental rules and regulations are applied and followed.
  • Manage capital project budgets.  Ensure projects are completed within budget and on time and communicate project status and significant milestones
  • Maintain departmental operating budgets and track and report performance regularly. Regulate department workloads.
  • Ensures the performance of root cause analysis for failures of equipment and system problems.  Recommend changes to Operations about modifying daily operation as needed to improved product quality, throughput or reliability.
  • Ensures and enforces plant design standards, procedures and work standards.
  • Ensures proper planning and execution of Plant Shutdown work
  • Provides leadership to the maintenance hourly employees and engineers
 

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineer (Masters preferred)
  • 10+ years of experience in a technical role within a related industry (oil & gas, specialty chemical, pulp & paper, pharmaceutical)
  • Supervisory experience in technical role
  • Experience managing large capital projects
  • Experience with maintenance and operation of chemical equipment preferred
