Provide engineering expertise to maintain and improve the process and production equipment. Work with various functional groups internal and external to the plant to identify and implement changes, which result in improved process yield, higher throughput, improved operating efficiencies, recognizable cost savings, and improved equipment reliability. Track and analyze key process and maintenance metrics to identify, prioritize and execute improvements. Support plant and organizational ESH initiatives and plans. Role may require execution of capital projects, which includes managing contractors during construction and leading commissioning and startup. This role will also lead the site mechanical integrity program and other maintenance best practices to ensure reliable and safe operation of the production equipment.



  • May have other accountabilities, including duties as needed, such as leading or participating in six sigma projects, budgeting, HIRAs, large capital project teams, etc.
  • Identify and respond to opportunities to improve safety, environmental compliance, throughput, quality, costs, housekeeping, and employee commitment. Assist in prioritization of improvement needs, develop and implement improvements. Actively participate in ESH initiatives. Serve as leader for at least one site ESH program.
  • Assist with training and development of hourly employees and other staff including production operators and maintenance personnel. May need to act as supervisor during periods of absence of regular supervisors.
  • Work with project teams during the design and installation of new equipment and processes to assure smooth and cost-effective introduction and startup. Assist with scope development, commissioning, training, operation and documentation.
  • Act as main site resource for selection of best-suited process equipment during upgrades or replacement projects. Utilize experience along with internal and external resources to select and stay current on new technology.
  • Provide expertise during root cause analysis in case of production problems or incidents. Make proposals for problem solving and implement the proposals in coordination with production team.
  • Maintain site mechanical integrity program and work with production and maintenance departments to meet Evonik corporate requirements.
  • Identify and classify process capability problems, especially related to equipment reliability and end of life assessments. Create and execute strategic plans to address issues identified.
  • Interface with production team on a regular basis. Provide leadership in the performance of plant production lines and assist as necessary with reactive problem resolution.
  • All other duties as assigned.


  • 7+ years’ experience working in a production or engineering environment. Mechanical Engineering preferred.
  • A minimum of a 4 year Bachelor Degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or Electrical Engineering with - strong preference for Mechanical Engineer
  • Proven track record of success in improving equipment reliability and production performance.
  • P.E. license is a plus - Professional Engineer Certification
  • Reliability experience
