The Sales Manager is responsible for a team of representatives facilitating ownership and accountability of all key selling processes for the sales of microbial control program (Blitz™, Spectrum™, others) to beef, swine, and poultry processing plants.   Leads the team to develop and execute account strategies, tactics and value propositions that can be used by sales team to improve results. This includes but is not limited to applying strategic selling skills to maintain and increase sales, participate and manage the development and delivery of sales budgets and strategies, identify target accounts and opportunities for key accounts to assign territory responsibility while managing own key accounts.



Sales Growth and Key Account Management

  • Ensures the team is focused on key account retention and  new opportunities for growth
  • Pursues new key account/national business opportunities
  • Act as primary vehicle for growth to initiate and follow-through on significant customer driven projects
  • Work with segment and other commercial managers to develop, refine and execute the sales strategy
  • Manage sales team development for strategy of all key accounts and maintain accountability for execution
  • Responsible for overseeing development of account and territory planning from sales team
  • To provide regular updates to management and team members on progress of sales strategy
  • Utilize existing software to report sales activities on a regular basis
  • Negotiates key account/national initial customer agreements. 
  • Acts as a secondary or escalation point for representative negotiations
  • Develop in depth knowledge about customer history, organization relationships, competitive issues, potential opportunities, etc. and transfer this knowledge to the organization for use in business maintenance and growth
  • Support marketing in maintaining a database that covers cost and use of competitive chemistries technologies

Technical Support

  • Ensure representatives have up to date knowledge about all products, current and potential applications to support customer needs
  • understand complex technical, economical, regulatory issues and secure the resources necessary to address firsthand or support the team to resolve issues
  • To provide representatives and customer training and education, when necessary, to support customer use of products and/or development of new products
  • Develop a working knowledge of advantages and disadvantages of competitive chemistries and technologies
  • Support field trials at customer sites


  • Enable management and other cross functional teams and employees to understand markets, barriers, needs and competitive developments to effectively support customer needs and plan strategies and objectives
  • Assemble call reports that provide useful information and are submitted within agreed timeframes
  • Internally, to communicate effectively on complex issues to secure resources, and externally to advocate a preferential position to customers and industry
  • Disseminate information to customers or internally to Evonik in a way that effectively meets specific needs

Human Resources

  • Develop commercial and other relevant skills of direct reports and manage and measure results
  • Identify, hire, train and develop sales talent to meet needs of the team
  • Challenge representatives to continue to develop skills and continuously improve sales capabilities


  • Troubleshoot treatment systems problems in customers’ facilities.
  • Periodically support customers or startup needs during non-traditional work hours.


  • Processing Plants – wide and varied exposure to chemicals, temperature variations, moving devices, and raw tissue, biological vectors, pathogens, off-gases, combustion products, organic chemicals and a variety of industrial environments etc.  The individual must not be visually affected by food processing techniques or strong odors.
  • Lab – exposure to fumes, dusts, chemicals, biological vectors and pathogens, etc.  Personal safety equipment to be worn as directed.
  • Travel – frequent travel to conduct field trials, troubleshoot, assist sales in customer presentations and communicate effectively.



  • BS Microbiology, Animal Science, Agricultural Business, Chemistry, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering or similar required
  • 3+ years of experience in poultry or meat industry in production and/or sales management or sales of value-added product in the industry
  • Experience from chemical service provider or manufacturer preferred
  • A strong understanding of meat and/or poultry processing and the ability to apply it in Evonik’s marketplace
  • A strong understanding of food microbiology, chemistry and food safety
  • Proven track record of sales growth and development of new accounts in the industry with the ability to network across the industry with stakeholders
  • Demonstrated use and team implementation of strong sales methodology
  • Strong relationship skills with key account/national account executives
  • Demonstrated ability to write and present clear, organized and informative business communications and presentations fluently
  • Requires overnight domestic and international travel approximately 60% of the time and frequent work during non-traditional hours.
