This position provides organization, planning, direction and control of maintenance, technical changes/ improvements and technical & regulation compliance documentation for a production plant while fulfilling the requirements of Evonik’s binding technical documents..  The position provides the technical expertise to maintain and continuously improve the technical availability of the plant as well as work to reduce maintenance costs through statistical review and root cause analysis.  Additional duties include project management and process troubleshooting/process improvement assignments to support the cost and plant availability objectives.  The Manager will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the plants store room and spare parts inventory. This position requires a seasoned engineer capable of complex process and maintenance assignments. The Maintenance Manager is responsible for adhering to and practicing the GMP, and Food Safety Procedures and controls implemented within the boundaries of his/her job function at the Etowah site.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • This position will be responsible for directing and monitoring maintenance related activities within the Etowah, Tennessee Plant, and will report to the Plant Manager.  Supervises 30-35 highly skilled Mechanical, Instrument and Electrical technicians.  Responsible for $5.5 million annual budget.  This position has a high impact on plant performance.
  • Plan and direct work assignments, job schedules, work priorities and duties of plant maintenance employees to ensure maximum efficiency and proficiency, while maintaining a positive work culture. 
  • Coordinate with production management the timely completion of work orders, setting priorities, and maintaining PM systems to minimize unscheduled downtime and emergency repairs.
  • Control work quality by establishing, enhancing and enforcing sound work practices, training methods, planning and follow-up.
  • Responsible for budgeting and controlling maintenance and repair costs
  • Implement capital and maintenance projects and coordinate and control outside maintenance contractors.
  • Responsible for overseeing compliance related inspections.  Maintain the mechanical integrity program for all I&E related devices and equipment.   Organize and maintain critical documentation library on plant equipment and processes for operation, maintenance, and legal requirements. Maintain records on critital safety devices, including PSV book with inspection, testing, & calculation methods.  Maintain Management of Change document records.
  • Ensure that all maintenance employees are trained and knowledgeable in the safety requirements, policies and procedures of their jobs.  Ensure compliance with corporate and OSHA requirement for contractors performing activities in the plant
  • Support the plant’s TPM Culture. Manage and implement productivity improvement initiatives within the maintenance department. 
  • Perform failure and root cause analysis and make technical recommendations for repairs and replacements considering economics and plant availability risks.  Provide daily technical support for equipment and process problems.  Initiate, plan and implement long term corrective actions to improve the process and plant reliability.
  • Recommend and implement improvements in equipment repair and replacement, operating guidelines and design enhancements that will result in an improved production and maintenance operability and efficiency.
  • Support company programs for maintaining ISO and GMP
  • Develop and implement plan to reduce storeroom inventory based upon risk based approach.  Improve inventory management around the plant site.
  • Continue to drive improvement of the plant Preventative and Predictive Maintenance systems. 
  • Provide oversight of the the steam and compressed air systems for the plant.  Drive improvements in energy reductions with these systems.  Ensure compliance with regulatory agencies for operation of this equipment.
 

REQUIREMENTS

 

  • BS in Engineering or related field is preferred
  • 10+ years of experience in a manufacturing industry with supervisory responsibilities
  • Solid foundation in plant maintenance (boilers, air compressors, rotating equipment, millwright, welding/pipefitting, heavy industrial equipment, sheet metal fabrication, supply cage and material systems) and operation principles in accordance with all federal and state regulations
  • Excellent communication skills; both verbal and written
  • Enhanced computer skills including Microsoft Office
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills
  • Highly developed conflict management skills
  • Proven ability to develop and manage effective teams
  • Ability to relate to and work with various personalities across multiple departments
  • Knowledge in safety, environmental, and personnel rules and regulations
