Evonik’s Health Care Vancouver Laboratories (VAN) offers the pharmaceutical industry contract development and early clinical phase GMP-compliant manufacturing services and LIPEX® branded processing equipment products. VAN’s mission is to grow both its service and product businesses and to be recognized as the leading CDMO for lipid-based drug development and supplier of processing equipment. In order to meet the increasing demands of our customers, VAN must operate a highly complex business that is technically competent, responsive and flexible while working under a quality culture and management system that is commensurate with supplying products and services meeting stringent cGMP requirements.


The Mechanical Technician is responsible for supporting fabrication, testing, packaging and shop activities within the Process Equipment Design group. This includes the fabrication, assembly, and inventory management of LIPEX® products and equipment





  • Provide assembly, fabrication, CAD competencies to the Process Equipment Design group.
  • Responsible for production of LIPEX® lab-scale extruders (assembly, testing, packaging, and coordinating with shipping & receiving).
  • Responsible for inventory management to ensure all required LIPEX® products, parts and materials are available.
  • Responsible for following detailed engineering drawings for the fabrication and assembly of mechanical parts, assemblies, and skid systems employing stud welding, drilling, Swagelok tube assemblies, pipe routing, power and hand tools.
  • Responsible for supporting with 3D SLA printing and post-production.
  • Support equipment testing and execution of validation/qualification protocols.
  • Propose new opportunities and provide technical support to the development of Intellectual Property.
  • Establish and foster a strong EHSS culture on the shop floor
  • The fabrication of extruders and custom process equipment skids
  • Help develop and foster an overall quality culture for continuous improvement and growth of LIPEX® products


  • Diploma in a relevant technical field (preferably in Mechanical Engineering Technology, Industrial Instrumentation and Process Control) with experience in fabrication, mechanical design, process equipment assembly, equipment testing, inventory management.
  • Preferably two (2) or more years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry with emphasis in process equipment, fabrication, and fluid systems.
  • An understanding and application of 3D CAD design (Solidworks preferred), Process Flow Diagrams and Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams, fabrication of skid assemblies and Swagelok fluid systems, 5S methodology.
  • Experienced in the use of hand and power tools, mechanical troubleshooting, word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation software programs.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills; ability to clearly and effectively communicate observations, results, and outcomes to senior technical staff.
