The position is responsible for either the Fermentation or Downstream/Utilities area from a technical perspective, which includes support of production staff for technical issues (equipment, process engineering, MOCs), support of the maintenance team, and development and execution of capex improvements in his/her area.  This position will execute work and support both Lysine and Omega 3 fatty acid production.  This position will follow the production closely, in order to support, but also to identify and execute improvements related to reliability, production rate, and cost optimization.  This position will participate in both Production and Maintenance area meetings and be a contributor to both.  Also, this position will give inputs to the Maintenance and capex planning processes.  At times, this position will act as a project manager and/or project responsible for a capex project in their given area of the plant, working with internal and external engineering resources, often acting as the lead, supervising the construction of the assets, often acting as the construction manager.  



  • Participate in maintenance meetings, provide technical support on specific topics, focused on reliability and plant availability improvements. 
  • Responsible to help coordinate shutdown planning, developing and executing scopes in area.
  • Provide technical support on equipment issues, develop scopes for technical or capex changes, execute MOC's and follow-up on incident investigations and non-conformances.
  • Create Maintenance Master data in SAP: Maintenance Plans, Task lists, Spare Parts, MRP.
  • Convert notifications to Work Orders in SAP. 
  • Able to provide inputs to PHAs, MOCs, and contribute to process descriptions and automation narratives.
  • Able to perform the role of project manager or project responsible according to Evonik's BTDs, leading projects up to $500 TUSD with no supervision.  Provide accurate costs, schedules, and cash flow forecasts.
  • Effectively develop the scope of projects in all phases. Stakeholders include plant operators, area managers, site management, quality, safety, and business managers.  Must effectively manage scope change.
  • Act as a lead working with internal and external engineers (i.e. Engineering Companies) and act as own construction manager for his/her project.
  • A key resource to provide inputs into the maintenance and capex planning process.
  • Able to use SAP for entering requisitions, work orders, and pulling all information related to maintenance and project costs.
  • Able to work with maintenance to define spare parts and PM's for new capital investments or technical changes in your area.


  • Minimum of 2 years of experience
  • Preferable to have capex project, production, and/or maintenance experience. 
  • Preferred Bachelor Degree in Mechanical, Chemical Engineering, or chemical process minded individuals with Engineering degrees in Electrical/Automation/Instrumentation.
