  • Assist in the development of direct reports in key areas (technical, communication, transferable skills, etc.)
  • Evaluate employee performance with respect to the established goals and expectations for direct reports. Provide feedback negative or positive on a routine basis
  • Utilize reward and disciplinary processes as appropriate to motivate employees to meet or exceed goals and expectations
  • Assign resources within department to ensure all necessary departmental and site functions are executed while taking into consideration events such as overtime, vacation, and medical leave.
  • Effectively communicates direction, objectives, and results as needed to direct reports.
  • Communicates with manufacturing regarding production priorities and progresses information to team on a regular basis.
  • Ensure employees are adequately trained and qualified to perform their assigned duties safely and effectively.
  • Communicate production priorities on a continuing basis to direct reports
  • Help establish departmental goals and expectations of direct reports
  • Ensure all completed task forms and calibration certificates meet Good Documentation Practices (GDP) and are performed per related work instructions and Equipment Action Forms (EAFs)
  • Assign resources to adhere daily maintenance schedule for each maintenance personnel & ensure each person knows what is expected of him or her.
  • Serve as point of contact for maintenance work orders and installation tasks throughout the plant.
  • Understand Birmingham priorities to manage the business of the site – this requires participation in front line leadership routine meetings and communications
  • Ability to read and interrupt general engineering & electrical drawings.
  • Advocate for change and champion change initiatives which can improve current procedures, methods, processes, etc. Identify, lead, investigate, and implement changes as necessary.
  • Coordinate with operations area and Engineering to accomplish required scheduled and unscheduled maintenance tasks.
  • Balance maintenance work between internal and external resources.
  • Assist as needed in troubleshooting & repair of critical utility systems, including DI, WFI, Pure Steam and USP Purified Water.
  • Review of installation of process instrumentation (flow, pressure, temperature, conductivity).
  • Oversee maintenance of rotating equipment, including pumps, fans, vacuum processes.
  • Contacts and oversees outside services as necessary.
  • Perform other duties as may be required by manager.
  • Everyone is responsible to meet fundamental cGMP requirements relating to their conduct and work practices to ensure the SISPQ (Safety, Identity, Strength, Purity, Quality) of the products manufactured at Evonik Tippecanoe Laboratories. This includes but is not limited to the following:
  • Adherence to all written Standard Operating procedures and ensures direct reports are as well.
  • Timely reporting of all deviations to management and entering into Trackwise and assign to the responsible party.
  • Ensures employee training on each activity is completed and current and that each employee understands their assigned duties.
  • Strict documentation practices are followed to ensure that all steps of the operation are appropriately documented.
  • Ensure direct reports are maintaining the work area in a state of cleanliness and sanitation through good housekeeping practices and applying good personal health practices.
  • Ensure the security and safety of the product through the reporting of any potential risk to management immediately.
  • Ensure the safety of the personnel and product by wearing proper PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) according to the operation being executed.
  • Everyone should report any action that they believe could impact the SISPQ of any product immediately to supervision.
  • Adhere to ESHS programs, rules, & procedures.
  • Assume personal accountability for individual behaviors related to ESHS activities.
  • Ensure direct reports have the appropriate knowledge and tools prior to performing a task.
  • Complete all required ESHS training and always remain current with applicable learning plans and ensure direct reports remain current.
  • Report all injuries to Employee Health Services or Security and supervision within the same shift of the incident occurring.
  • Inform direct supervision of any ESHS hazards or concerns in the workplace.
  • Provide feedback and coaching to direct reports and coworkers on both safe and unsafe behaviors and conditions.
  • Actively participate in the ESHS management system as directed by supervision.


  • Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent or Technical Certification with several years experience; 2-year Associates Degree preferred.  
  • Minimum 5 years supervisory experience with direct reports.
  • Must have extensive experience in preventive and corrective maintenance and repair of various process and utility equipment which includes but limited to pumps, motors, transmitters, PLCs, VFDs, etc.
  • Must have at minimum 4 years of experience in Electrical or Mechanical repair, and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to assist in the troubleshooting & repair of various process and utility equipment which includes but limited to pumps, motors, transmitters, PLCs, VFDs, etc.
  • Understanding of cGMP fundamentals to include, but not limited to Good Documentation Practices preferred.
  • At least 3-5 yrs. experience in a GMP regulated industry. i.e. manufacturing, pharmaceutical or medical device industry preferred.
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience working in the Pharmaceutical or Biotechnology or similar industry is desired.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Able to handle multiple priorities and tasks.
  • Sound judgment; ability to be flexible.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Works well in team environment and with cross functional teams.
  • Able to ascend/descend stairs and ladders
  • May be required to enter confined space
  • May be required to work in a high noise/high temperature environment
  • May be required to work outside in an uncontrolled environment
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds without assistance
