The Lab Manager is responsible for overseeing a team of lab technicians as well as ensuring quality control of hydrogen peroxide, the safe and efficient operations of the lab, contributing to process improvement efforts, and supporting the site’s ISO and FDA (cGMP) programs. The Lab Manager will also be responsible for the evaluation of production performance against quality specifications in order to meet the identified needs of both internal and external customers.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Health, Safety, Security, Environment and Process Safety 

  • Maintain and enhance the Bayport Plant’s Safety, Environment and Security programs for all Laboratory Personnel to minimize injury, community impact and loss potential.
  • Ensure compliance with all state and federal safety and environmental regulations in all laboratory areas
  • Act as the chemical hygiene officer and ensure compliance with the lab chemical hygiene plan and the PeroxyChem Mandatory Safety Standards.
  • Establish and maintain high housekeeping standards in all laboratory areas

Quality Control

  • Supervise and direct the resources required to evaluate production performance against quality specifications to meet the identified needs of internal and external customers
  • Direct the preparation and documentation of sample shipments
  • Direct the verification of incoming raw materials, in-process samples, tank samples, finished product storage and finished product shipment samples
  • Ensure accurate testing, reporting and record keeping of results are in place
  • Ensure that analytical methodologies have accuracy and precision required to meet customer’s needs (method validation, gage R&R, calibration, standard preparation, instrument status verification, preventive maintenance)
  • Maintain the instrument preventive maintenance program in good standing
  • Administer all clean room environment to maintain compliance to the designated ISO classification and maintain adequate clean room protocol
  • Maintain a reliable service by ensuring availability of critical parts and lab consumables while looking for ways to optimize instrumentation uptime
  • Work with instrument vendors as needed
  • Ensure good laboratory practices are being followed
  • Ensure quality incidents and near misses are properly reported, investigated to prevent recurrence
  • Ensure the proper implementation and reporting of all quality assurance and SPC data for the control of the H2O2 processes
  • Assist with non-conforming product disposition. 

Continuous Improvement

  • Drive continuously improve initiatives to improve the effectiveness of the department and the Bayport site and work with other departments as needed

Human Resources

  • Ensure lab coverage of appropriately trained resources-to deliver timely results to ensure on time delivery of products
  • Maintain a motivated flexible work force capable of meeting or exceeding the changing requirements placed on the laboratory by the customers of the laboratory
  • Be responsible for performance management and development of team.
 

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering or equivalent area of study
  • 3+ years’ prior experience as a Laboratory Technician in a chemical plant environment preferred
  • Experience with managing direct reports in a similar industrial setting
  • ISO management system experience required
  • Experience with clean room environment and ICP-MS is desirable
  • FDA (cGMP) experience is desirable
