This position is a key member of the AO Bayport Controlling function and reports to the plant Controller. The Financial Accountant is responsible for the accounting and Financial Reporting & Month, Quarter and Year-end Closing of three plants; provide accurate, timely and relevant information; ensure compliance with Corporate Financial Standards; assisting with preparation of annual budgets, periodic forecasts, and costs accounting and products standards;  maintaining the general ledger, fixed assets master data, overseeing site internal controls for Inventory and fixed assts, and maintain the site’s SAP master data and other systems utilized by the site. 


This position will work closely with multiple stakeholders within the AO division and Financial functions. Examples of stakeholders include the Controlling group in Philadelphia, the plant managers for Bayport, Saratoga and Memphis, The project managers for AO and the VP of manufacturing for AO NA.  




Overseeing the month-end and year-end closing process:

  • Prepare critical journal entries and review key journal entries prepared the controller. Verify supporting documentation and ensure completeness, accuracy, and consistency of journal entries. Perform posting’s review for accuracy. Prepare and maintain accurate accounting records, reports of fixed assets, inventories, liabilities, and costs.
  • Overseeing project spending application and timely capitalization of projects. Support the property tax compliance.
  • Prepare assigned Balance Sheet reconciliations, and ensure they are timely reviewed by self and the controller. Such review must ensure the financial data is recorded in accordance with IFRS based Evonik Reporting Manual and ensure appropriate tools like Blackline is used to ensure compliance with preparation & review of Balance Sheet Reconciliations.
  • Conduct site financial close every month to determine results of the related period, following the checklists to ensure accuracy and completeness.

Financial Reporting:

  • Participate in preparation of individual Pant stand-alone financial reporting as needed.
  • Coordinate the physical inventory of raw materials, finished goods, packing, stores and fixed assets as required by the Financial Standards and as needed to ascertain accounting data. Report monthly cost data, efficiencies, and general ledger plant account balances. 
  • Serve as key contact for external auditors for specific legal entities and/or accounts assigned.

Budgeting, Property tax, other reports.

  • Upload the annual budget in SAP and opportunity reviews ensure the correctness of the standard costs per budget.
  • Support the Controller to coordinate the resources required for the development and analysis of the annual budget and opportunity reviews as required.
  • Manage the resources required to prepare Property tax reports as required by corporate and needed to comply with state laws


  • BA/BS in Accounting, CPA preferred

  • Minimum 3 – 6 years of Cost Accounting experience, in a chemical plant is desirable.

  • Strong proficiency with SAP, MS Office and MS Power Tools

  • Well versed in IFRS or US GAAP

  • Strong communication skills (both written and verbal), mental agility and analytical ability required
