Provision of applied research & technology in support of Coating Additives products.  Planning, execution and reporting of laboratory projects as assigned by the ART Manager – Industrial Segment.  Assistance in product recommendations, delivery of presentations and training to customers and distributors.  Communication with Essen and Hanau laboratories, as well as regional Americas labs on projects and other technical matters.   Work with Allentown and Richmond laboratories on projects across shared resources.



1.    Independently performs a broad range of activities – experiments, tests and laboratory/production processes and procedures – requiring specialized knowledge of formulating techniques, spray application, and raw material product information.  Independently leads complex, strategically important customer-focused projects.  

2.    Develops, recommends and implements new/revised tests, processes or procedures consistent with goals established for the program or project.

3.    Prepares presentations, technical reports, summaries and analyses of his/her work.

4.    Participates in collaborative research and development work as a member or leader of a project team and interfaces with global colleagues and directly with customer (if a specific one is involved).

5.    May supervise or train other laboratory personnel in the performance of specialized work.  May oversee the activities of other employees assigned to support a specific project (lower level scientists, technicians, interns).

6.    Prepares material and data to support patent filing.

7.    Makes presentations to management or customers as needed.  Provide technical expertise for Industrial Coatings.

8.    Performs other related duties as assigned.

9.    Once technically sound in Silica, TEGO® and PMD product lines used in coatings, and demonstrates both verbal and written competency, he/she will visit customers to support business development and take an active role in determining business prospects and new business strategies. 



  • MS in Chemistry or related science with 0-1 year of coatings formulating experience or B.S. in Chemistry or related science with 5+ years of formulating experience.  
  • Good laboratory technique to formulate coatings products; ability to observe and record experimental data and make recommendations based on knowledge relative to area of assignment.
  • Possesses strong verbal and technical writing skills. 
  • Good problem solving skills.
  • Ability to travel and make technical presentations to customers as needed to support technical sales
