The position exists to support the development and transfer of technology from lab scale to commercialization.  The incumbent will be involved in strategic process development programs from the concept stage through commercialization, working closely with team members from our engineering, operations, and business teams around the world. The candidate will be required to function effectively on cross-functional project teams. The position is responsible for conducting hands on laboratory research, supervision of lab technicians in routine activities, support of scale-up to demonstration and commercial scales and providing technical recommendations based on results.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Participate as part of the process team to develop the final process design as the process chemistry expert to ensure that the final design meets all expectations of the business requirements.
  • Design and oversee or perform reaction experiments, including modifying pressures, temperatures and catalysts and performing distillations/separations related to direct amine exchange chemistry
  • Perform and/or interpret the results of applicable analytical methods (minimum competency HPLC, GC, NMR I H and 13C) to support lab model development. 
  • Provide documentation of laboratory activities.  Provide concise, accurate and complete reports of Laboratory experimentation.
    1. Provide operations with accurate and detailed process descriptions to support the creation of manufacturing instructions
    2. Maintain laboratory notebooks to a sufficient standard to support potential IP claims
  • Scopes, evaluates and recommends purchase of lab and pilot plant equipment
  • Performs routine engineering and process safety calculations.  Documents the technical basis of the calculation and all key assumptions.
 

REQUIREMENTS

  • PhD in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering strongly preferred.  MS degrees will be considered with related work experience
  • Experience in catalysis, ideally heterogeneous catalysis
  • Knowledge of amine chemistry preferred
  • Experience with product scale-up, technology transfer and batch processing is a plus.
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills
  • Ability to effectively contribute to multi-disciplinary project teams
