The position exists to support the development and transfer of new technology from lab scale to commercialization.  The position may involve acting as a technical liaison with other departments.  The incumbent will be involved in technology development programs from the concept stage through commercialization, working closely with team members from our engineering, operations, and business teams around the world. The incumbent will be required to function effectively on cross-functional project teams in a support role. The position requires development of technical expertise in one or two areas.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs process development and executes scale-up of simple new products in existing assets.  Develops innovative technology that results in lower manufacturing cost or increased capacity in Evonik production plants.
  • Working with a senior engineer design and lead experimental programs. Be comfortable working in the lab and performing the necessary experiments for the research program.  Analyze experimental lab data including heat of reaction, and reaction kinetics. Use analytical techniques such as GC, GC/MS, NMR, GPC, and titrations in process scale up and troubleshooting. Analyze, interpret, and document the knowledge gained from the development work in research reports.
  • Apply engineering and chemistry fundamentals to troubleshoot and identify root causes and help solve non-routine manufacturing problems.  Provide technical guidance to Engineering and act as a consultant in specific areas of expertise. 
  • Performs plant data analysis using a six sigma and/or statistical methodology. Apply the information to identify capacity improvements, trouble-shoot problems, determine feasibility of new products or process changes.
 

REQUIREMENTS

  • BS in Chemical Engineering or similar field
  • 1+ year of experience including working in a chemical plant or pilot plant operation, working in a chemical laboratory environment and project leadership experience desired
  • Experience with new product scale-up and batch processing is a plus.  
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills
  • Ability to effectively contribute to multi-disciplinary project teams 
  • Good understanding of analytical tools and methodologies
