This position provides technical laboratory support for the ADTS team in North America which is collectively responsible for technical service, application development and new product development of polyurethane additives and release agents for molded automotive seating applications.




  • Performing application tests specific to the Comfort automotive molded foam industry, including both hand-mix foam evaluations and studies on the high pressure molded foam machine
  • QC and application testing of release agents to evaluate batch quality and product performance   
  • Maintaining the Automotive foam laboratory and testing equipment with existing technicians. 
  • Actively participating within the Site Safety team and maintaining a laboratory compliant with all Site safety policies.
  • Conducts lab experiments following given recipes/procedures (mixing chemicals to produce flexible foams; cutting and testing of cured foams; clean-up of workspace & disposal of foams).  
  • Documentation of test results in established written or electronic formats (lab notebooks, spreadsheets, databases)
  • Maintains a clean, organized and safe workplace (housekeeping, operation of equipment, handling of chemicals, documentation of inventory and SDS).
  • Prepares and updates documents regarding Safe Work Practices, Design Hazard Reviews and Management of Changes, as needed.
  • Efficiently assists in management of the Automotive laboratory (purchasing of supplies, regulatory set-up of experimental samples, preparation of sample shipments, routine analytical analysis) in coordination with all other laboratory occupants and users (including his or her supervisor and other senior managers), ensuring all site safety requirements are consistently met.
  • Prepares reports, analyzes and interprets data obtained from technical experimentation and effectively communicates these results, as well as any observed inconsistencies and proposed improvements, to his/her supervisor.
  • Implements modifications to applications tests or develops new test methods to simulate field performance of products as needed. Uses technical literature (ASTM, ISO methods) and analytical instruments including Flash point tester, GC/MS, microscope, Karl-Fischer, viscometer, etc. to evaluate & compare properties of existing, developmental and competitive products. 
  • Testing and activities also include safe handling of non-hazardous and hazardous chemicals in quantities of 5 gallons, 55 gallons and totes.



  • Minimum Associates Degree in Chemistry, General Science OR related technical area, with at least 3 years of industrial experience in a laboratory environment OR 5-7 years’ experience in production operation focused in coatings.
  • Preferred Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Material Science, Polymer Chemistry, or Chemical Engineering with adequate skills and knowledge of standard laboratory practices and procedures.  Relative experience in polyurethane applications an asset.
  • Has knowledge of basic chemical structure, nomenclature and chemical hazard documentation.
  • Excellent oral, written and electronic communication skills with a working knowledge of software programs including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and other Microsoft Office products.
