The Head of Applied Research & Technology, Inks, Americas assures that:

  • All ink-related technical consultation and support for external customers and distributors as well as the training of employees and distributors in the Americas are executed with high quality in alignment with Business Line Coating Additive’s strategy.
  • Customer projects are identified, acquired and well-executed, enabling realization of opportunities
  • Global R&D projects for Printing inks Market Segment and Product Development are run efficiently and products launched successfully. The American Printing Inks team initiates/runs/leads global developmental projects as well as they support other R&D projects as team members.
  • The regional Printing Inks Market Strategy is developed and implemented in the region.
  • Sales and CM1 growth targets for Business Line Coating Additive’s Printing Inks Market Strategies are met
  • Global Innovation targets (NPV, pipeline value, launch calendar) for Business Line Coating Additives are achieved
  • Efficient interaction between the network of global ink laboratories is achieved


  • Manage all R&D and Applied Technology activities for Printing Inks market segment in the Americas
  • Run and contribute to global R&D projects and activities, including regulatory initiatives.
  • Participate in the development of innovation portfolios for global Printing Inks MS.  As co-lead of Regional Printing Inks Market Strategy Team, assist in the development and implementation
  • Provide technical support and recommendations to Global Key Accounts, Focus Accounts and accounts managed through distribution partners.
  • Secure and monitor all necessary EHSQ (Environmental, Health, Safety & Quality) measures and compliance requirements
  • Continuously advance inks product knowledge, competence and expertise
  • With the commercial team, identify, acquire and execute customer projects and realize opportunities
  • Initiate and maintain important business contacts
  • Participate in the generation & execution of the IP strategy for Printing Inks applications.
  • Flexibly and efficiently utilize and coordinate all resources
  • Lead and develop the employees within the Americas Printing Inks Applied Research & Technology team
  • Proactively transfer knowledge to Sales, Marketing and distribution partners
  • Represent Evonik at conferences and fairs. Prepare technical papers and journal articles to represent the market segment.  Support regulatory initiatives for products in region.
  • Actively drive the regional and international exchange of information within the Printing Inks Market Strategy and across segment boundaries


  • Ph.D. or M.S. degree in Chemistry
  • Min. 10 years’ experience in the ink industry and/or raw material industry for inks.  Preferably experience in liquid inks technology, especially waterborne and/or radiation-curing.  Inks Additives or Coating additives experience a strong plus.
  • Lab management experience required.
  • Solid experience in customer interactions and presentations. 
  • Strong leadership & managerial skills to build support for, plan, organize and execute projects and help manage Global Market Segment Team new product development pipelines.
  • Strong teamwork & excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively across regions, functions, and business lines. 
  • Ability to operate effectively within a complex matrix organization with multiple stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational, communication and leadership skills
