The position exists to develop new products for Adhesive and Composites Markets (Structural Markets). The incumbent will work with the R&D team to develop differentiated and proprietary technology to focus on delivering the financial growth target for the BL-CL’s.  The incumbent will provide technical leadership in product development projects and provide technical leadership to the assigned industry teams that identify the market's unmet needs. The incumbent will be required to lead effectively on cross-functional/cross-regional project teams in a recognized technical expert role.  The incumbent will also be require to interact closely with customers to commercialize the new products and to identify new business opportunities and build strong relationships for the BL long term growth.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Applied Technology: - Closely interact with the prospect/current customers to commercialize new products, identify new business opportunities and define new product straw model for broader acceptance.  The position will need to build strong relationships with prospect accounts and drive new product growth. Develop application testing protocols and design new processing techniques in-house for the new applications. Transform customer needs to new product ideas with broad market acceptance.  Develop new products by formulating using existing or new building blocks.  Visit customers and attend trade shows and technical conferences to promote new product and technology and to stay current with latest technology and competitor activities. 
  • New Product Development: - This position will develop new products for Structural markets by continuously filling the new project pipeline and commercializing new products.  Lead the development of new products through new idea initiation, project proposal, technology roadmap, and implementing lab experiments to explore feasibility. In addition, leverage a fundamental knowledge base of epoxy technology and establish structure/ property relationships to improve product performance or develop new products. Provide inputs to the R&D team to design a new molecule based on market trends and driver.  As technical lead for the assigned industry teams, work closely with marketing and sales to identify industry trends and drivers and unmet market needs which can be leveraged for differentiated and profitable growth.  Work closely with process engineers to scale up new products, and support new product introduction and plant trial.  
  • Mentoring and Coaching: -   Develop team members by mentoring individuals in the group. Work closely with team members to help them understand the business needs and how to achieve the business goals. Encourage the team members to propose new ideas and evaluate the ideas to bring as a project for the BL. Provide guidance to the team members about how to approach and work with customer to solve their problems. 
  • Monitor competitor patent landscape and their new offerings to understand their direction for the technology. Realign on the strategy if needed. Write patents on the innovation on new molecule, formulations and processing techniques. 
  • Share the knowledge & experience on new markets with the global Industries teams. Support any question on the base products to the regional and global team. Recognized as an expert in the fields.
 

REQUIREMENTS

  • PhD in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience working in Application Technology and new product development.  Project leadership experience is required
  • Experience and consistent record of accomplishment on new product from idea initiation to scale-up and commercialization. 
  • Profound knowledge and experience in composite processes and design formulations. 
  • Strong interpersonal Skill to influence internal and external customers on the project 
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills. 
  • Ability to effectively lead multi-disciplinary project teams  
  • Internally recognized technical expertise in Structural market applications 
  • A track record of championing new ideas and technology including IP development and competitive analysis
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously including managing a team of direct reports
